Art students from 17 different high schools visited the Art and Design department today for our biannual Imagination Day. With ongoing construction, things were done a little differently this time around. Students began the day by meeting in the HPER (or Hyper) Gym where they listened to a talk by Chicago artist and art educator William Estrada. Estrada, who will also be speaking at this week’s Nebraska Art Teachers Association Fall Conference, spoke about his experiences in the Windy City bringing art to underserved neighborhoods.
Students then participated in a variety of workshops taught by faculty and assisted by current Art and Design majors. Workshops included photography, printmaking, 3D modeling, painting, glassblowing, letterpress, and ceramics. Mr. Estrada also stuck around to give high school art teachers a lesson in screen printing through his Mobile Art Cart.
