KINDRED is a new fundraising initiative targeted toward maintaining and improving the offerings and facilities of the Department of Art and Design on the UNK campus. The alumni of our programs are our most valuable resource in this regard, as they are the most compelling, shining examples of success through hard work! We have two upcoming events on May 31st and June 1st of 2019 that we hope you can be a part of, at our own Walker Art Gallery and at the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA).
The Walker Art Gallery will host a poster exhibit by UNK alumnus Chris Cox. The exhibit opens May 20th and runs through May 31st. Closing reception will be Friday at the Walker Art Gallery from 5-7PM. You are cordially invited to attend, and also get a tour of some of the construction projects and art facilities changes. After the reception, the Department is hosting a social at the Alumni House from 7–9PM for UNK Art and Design alumni. Come catch up with old friends and see new faces!
The Museum of Nebraska Art will host an UNK Art and Design Faculty Show from May 18th through June 1st with a closing reception on Saturday at MONA from 7–9PM. Again, you are cordially invited to attend the closing reception as well as participate in the silent auction to help raise funds for the department’s renovation project and equipment needs. It’s a chance to own a piece of art from one of your favorite professors with all proceeds going toward the purchase of supplies and equipment for the department. Both KINDRED events are free and open to the public during normal business hours.
For more details of the different KINDRED events, please go to our department website: art.unk.edu/kindred/. There, you will find schedules, registrations (Everbrite) for different events, samples of faculty artwork, progress on the building renovations, and more!
If you have any questions about KINDRED, please contact Richard Schuessler via email at schuesslerr@unk.edu or call the Art and Design office at 308-865-8353.
2019 is already shaping up to be a great year. Come and share it with us!
