Prior to joining the UNK faculty as a full-time lecturer, Bloomfield utilized her BA in photography at the Minden Courier as a staff photographer and run an independent photography studio from her home. Interactions with k-12 students both in extracurricular endeavors and portrait settings ignited a call toward education. After gaining her teaching certification through UNK’s Transitional Certification Program Bloomfield taught elementary and middle-level visual art in Minden Public Schools for seven years while earning a MAE in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus area in visual art education. During this time, Liz served on the Nebraska Art Teachers Association (NATA) as the Youth Art Month liaison and currently co-sponsors UNK’s National Art Education Association Student Organization.
Bloomfield’s primary teaching focus is on elementary art, art integration, and fostering creative thinking skills. Her teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that every individual possesses inherent creative potential. She is dedicated to helping students of all levels overcome the fear and insecurity that often inhibit creative expression, aiming to build their self-confidence and encourage growth through the arts.
As a studio artist, Bloomfield creates photographic installations largely inspired by the native Nebraska landscape exploring themes of time, nature, and home.
