UNKtober 2025

UNKtober is back!

Sign-up for a prompt or two, creatively interpret the prompt using the media of your choice, scan/photograph your work, and send it to us! Students and faculty will judge the entries according to our contest categories where the best will win some killer prizes!.

UNKtober is open to all UNK students. See more details below!

Select up to two prompts and visually interpret them using the media of your choice (whether it be ink, graphite, digital art, glass, collage, found objects, clay, meatloaf…whatever you choose to create with!)

HOW TO ENTER

  1. First, sign-up for a prompt or two using the link below. Each participant can sign up for up to two prompts.
  2. Create a work based on the prompt(s) you have selected. You can interpret them however you want (the more creative, the better) and use the medium/media of your choice.
  3. Submit your work as an exported image file (JPG or PDF is preferable), scan, or leave a physical copy of your work on Prof. Rapien’s door in FAB 311. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, October 30 by 11:59 PM.

JUDGING

Entries will be judged after October 31 by UNK Art and Design students and faculty using a blind ballot. Winners will be announced after all faculty have voted.

QUESTIONS?

Feel free to contact Professor Rapien if you have any questions or concerns.

CATEGORIES

BEST OF THE BEST

The crème de la crème of all of the entries. Strong concept, skillful execution, and undeniable impact. This is the one that rises above the rest.

NIGHTMARE FUEL

The creepiest of all the entries that gets under our skin, makes us squirm; the one that keeps us up at night.

YOU WENT WITH ADORABLE?!

The rebel move for Halloween: something sweet, charming, cute, or even downright precious. For those that want to make us say “awwww” instead of “AAHHHH!!”

GHOSTS IN THE MACHINE

A new category just for AI-generated images! Glitchy, uncanny, or just plain bizarre algorithm-born entries go here. These entries won’t compete for Best of the Best, but we’ll celebrate the most haunting visions our digital ghosts can conjure.
