For the past five years, I have worked for a radio station. While working, I have learned about what makes a good radio station. When branding the station, I chose to make it to be a country station as that is my favorite music. After looking at the branding of other stations, I wanted Y76 to be different with a different color theme but still having that country feel with a fun atmosphere.

Y76 Pure Country gives our listeners the music that they want to hear. We strive to give back to the community and love to taking part in community events. It is important to Y76 to bring country artists for concerts in our community.

“In obtaining my undergraduate degree, I have learned more about design. Since I love working in radio and want to combine the two.”

Logo Mark

Main Logo

I chose the call letters KGKY. I used the last letter Y and the frequency number 76 for the station name. Using a large Y makes it stand out with the 76 the frequency number being a decorative font to stand apart from the y.

Scondary Logo

The secondary logo uses the full name of the station with the numbers. This excludes the Y so the focus is on pure country as this is the type of music that we are providing listener.

Call Letters

The call letters are part of the stations name. The first letter K means the station is west of the Mississippi River. Having worked part time at a station I hear call letters often. I used letter that were different but sounded good together.

Design Elements and Process

I had fun designing all the elements of Y76, but my very favorite part was choosing the color theme. A few words behind the ideas of each decision.

COLORS

Most stations have common colors of reds, blues and yellows. I wanted to use different colors but that would stand out. Using the darker blue make the blue green stand out with the whites

TYPEFACES

The use of boots and spurs typeface gives the logo a country feel along with the numbers. The other two fonts make the information and logo standout with the other to tie them together and not make it busy.

The objective of the design solution was to create a visual identity for a fictitious radio station. KGKY Y76 Pure Country is a country radio station. It is a medium market radio station located in southwest Nebraska. The primary goal of the design was to maintain a simplistic and pleasing design with a fun atmosphere. Y 76 Pure Country is similar in design to other stations but I have put my own personality in the design. The aim of this website is to signify the journey of designing a radio station. The primary design scheme is a bold type with a different color palette along with a decorative type for pure country. Another design objective was to create give away items and brand the company. Y76’s overall message is to provide entertaining country music to the community. The overall outcome of the design suits the content of the project. The intent was to produce a simplistic design that is memorable and stands out from other stations. Through the selections of colors and type, the goal was achieved.
