The general philosophy of UNK is to provide scholarships to assist entering freshman with supplemental financial resources. The committee will select scholarship recipients based on applicants performance in three areas: academic status, letter of reference, and the student portfolios.

These are primarily talent based scholarships. The review committee will make selections based on on student portfolios that demonstrate strong technical ability in variety of media, and above average creativity.

To be eligible, the freshmen recipients must have completed all application and documentation found under "How to Submit" section and must be a declared major in Studio Art, Visual Communications, or Art Education at UNK.
