New iMacs

laptops

The final "big" Apple product announcement of the day was the revamped iMac line. The all-in-one computer gets a slight design tweak in that the display now goes edge-to-edge and comes in two 16:9 (like HDTV) sizes: 21.5" and 27". The standard processor received a speed bump, but can also be built-to-order with the latest Mac Pro-like quad-core Intel Core i5 or i7 chips. Finally, the new iMacs sport a built-in SD card reader (like the MacBook Pros) and come standard with wireless keyboards and the new Magic Mouse. Check out Apple's website for specs and prices.

New MacBook

The design changes first introduced to Apple's MacBook Pro line a few months ago, finally made their way to the low-end MacBook today. While maintining it's white polycarbonate materials, the new MacBook now incorporates the glass Multi-Touch trackpad, LED-backlit display, built-in longer-life battery & unibody construction of it's bigger brother. It even sports a similar curvy look. Check out the new notebook at Apple's website.

New Mac Minis

Another Apple product updated today was the Mac Mini. The entire line was given a speed boost and a new model was introduced specifically geared for use as a server. The new server model eschews the optical drive for a second hard drive. If you're keen on these compact little computers, check out Apple's website for more info.

Apple introduced a slew of new products today. One of which is a completely redesigned mouse, dubbed the "Magic Mouse". Borrowing the Multi-Touch technology from Apple's notebook lines, this new bluetooth mouse has an entirely touch sensitive surface. The Magic Mouse will come standard with all new iMacs and can be purchased separately for everything else. Check out Apple's website for details.

Art - 310 Printer

The ART310 Copier is a little more complicated to use than it's predecessors. As it can do both B&W and color, you'll want to make sure you configure everything correctly before clicking Print. To help you out, we've created a PDF detailing what to look for when printing. As always, if you have problems, feel free to ask an instructor, lab tech or the IT Coordinator for help.

Reminder: Art Server Weekly Cleanup

The Student Files section of the Art Server will be completely wiped clean every Saturday. This means that every week, before the Art labs close on Friday afternoon, you'll need to backup anything you have stored in this folder that you'll need the following week. If you don't backup your files, they'll be gone forever.

Apply For Your Own Server Space

Students in both the Art & Art History and Communication departments can apply for their own personalized, password-protected server storage space. There are some restrictions on who can apply and how much space you get, but check out the Lab Info page for the specific application links to find out more.

If, for some odd reason, you can't find them there, here are direct links to the online application forms: Art Students and Comm Students.
