Scholarship application image size help:

FORMAT:

Files must be in the Jpeg (.jpg) format.
(Do not attempt to upload images as pdfs, layered files, or as a slide show.)

Most point-and-shoot digital cameras and photo programs already save files in the Jpeg format, as it is the most common image format on the Internet. However, if your files are "raw" or in another format, we can try to help you convert them to Jpeg.

There are several photo programs that will convert image files from one format to another.

Free conversion tools are available on the Internet as well.

  • Webbild (converts and resizes tif, bmp, gif, and png to jpg.)
  • IAZA (converts gif, png or bmp to jpg)
  • Coolutils (free online pdf to jpg). Shareware: free conversion download for 30 days.

SIZE:

File uploads are limited by software to 4 megabytes per submission. The default setting on most digital cameras produce images that are worderful for print, but much, much too large for the web (printers handle many more pixel points per square inch than the web). Check to make sure each of the ten images you selected for upload are no more than 400 KB before you try to submit them. That said, we still need images of at least 600 pixels in width or height for our screen. If all of this is a bit confusing, try to work with pixels instead of inches for the best results.

These tools can be used to check or re-size files:

  • Webbild (converts and resizes .tif, .bmp, .gif and .png to .jpg)
  • resize2 (online size change)
  • kategorie (another resizer)

CONNECTION PROBLEMS:

If applicants are connecting with a slow modem, or experience other connection problems, they may wish to try early in the morning, later at night, or on a different computer. Contact the committee if connection speed issues prevent sucessful submission.
